The Camí de Cavalls (GR 223) goes all the way round Menorca along the coast, about 185 km split into 20 waymarked stages. You don’t need to walk it all: the finest sections take a morning and lead to coves with no road. The southern ones are the busiest; the northern ones, wilder and hillier.
Cala Galdana–Macarella–Cala Turqueta (south)
The most famous stretch: from Cala Galdana to Macarella in about 45 minutes and from Macarella to Cala Turqueta in another 45, through pine woods and along cliffs, with a swim in every cove.
In season you can return to Ciutadella on the Macarella bus (L69) or the Cala Turqueta bus (L68). Out of season there is no bus: allow 1 h 30 min to walk back to Cala Galdana.

Cala Galdana–Cala Mitjana (south)
For a short morning: 20 to 30 minutes through the pine woods from Cala Galdana to Cala Mitjana, one of the clearest coves on the island. You return the same way.
Afterwards, the lower Algendar gorge, which starts behind Cala Galdana beach, is an easy, cool walk. More on Cala Mitjana.

Binimel·là–Cala Pregonda (north)
About 35 minutes with no shade from the Binimel·là car park to Cala Pregonda, with reddish sand, rocks and islets. It is the busiest stretch in the north.
The last 2 km to Binimel·là are dirt track. In July and August, arrive between 9:00 and 10:00. More on Cala Pregonda.
Favàritx and Es Grau (east)
Inside s’Albufera des Grau Nature Park: from Favàritx lighthouse to Presili cove is about 20 minutes, and from Es Grau paths lead to the lagoon and to the Camí de Cavalls.
From mid-May to 30 September you reach Favàritx lighthouse on bus L43. Line L23 goes to Es Grau all year.

What to bring and when to go
Spring and autumn are the best seasons; in summer, set off first thing. Bring at least 1.5 litres of water per person, a hat and walking shoes: there is little shade and no reliable water source.
