Flights to Menorca
Menorca Airport is 5 km from Maó. There are flights all year from Madrid, Barcelona and Palma and, in season, many direct routes from the UK and Europe.
- For July and August, book several months ahead: that’s when fares rise most.
- Compare nearby dates: flying on a Tuesday or Wednesday is often cheaper than at the weekend.
- If you land in the morning, start your trip in the east of the island, 15 minutes from the airport.
Where to stay
For a first visit, Ciutadella or Maó; with children, the south coast (Cala Galdana, Son Bou, Binibeca); for a quiet trip, the north or the interior.
- For a week, two bases (one in the east and one in the west) save a lot of driving.
- Choose free-cancellation rates when you book far in advance.
- Check whether parking is included, especially in the old towns of Maó and Ciutadella.
Car hire
With a car you reach coves, lighthouses and villages at your own pace: it’s the most practical way to see the island in a few days. Pick it up at the airport or the port.
- A small car is easier to park in the villages and on the tracks to the coves.
- Compare the final price: insurance, excess, fuel policy and additional driver.
- In summer, Macarella and Favàritx can’t be reached by car: take the bus on those days.
Getting around without a car: bus and taxi
The Maó–Ciutadella line runs every 30 minutes and in season there are buses to the main beaches. Radio Taxi Menorca: 971 367 111 (Maó area) and 971 482 222 (Ciutadella and Ferreries).
- Always check timetables on mou-T Menorca: they change between high and low season.
- To get back at night or link stages of the Camí de Cavalls, a taxi is the best option.
- Without a car, stay in Maó or Ciutadella, where almost every line starts.
