You reach Menorca by plane, at Menorca Airport, 5 km from Maó, or by ferry, at the ports of Maó and Ciutadella. Flying is fastest; the ferry is the option if you want to bring your own car. From the airport there’s a bus to Maó every half hour in summer, plus taxis and car hire desks in the terminal.
By plane: Menorca Airport
Menorca Airport (MAH) has flights all year from Madrid, Barcelona and Palma and, in season, many direct routes from the United Kingdom and other European countries.
Fares rise sharply in July and August: compare nearby dates and book early. Out of season, the usual route is a connection in Barcelona, Madrid or Palma.
From the airport to Maó, Ciutadella or your hotel
Bus L10 links the airport with Maó bus station in about 15 minutes (€2.80 in 2026), every half hour from June to September. Buses to the rest of the island leave from Maó.
Check the airport bus timetable on mou-T Menorca. Ciutadella is about 50 minutes away by car or taxi. If you’re hiring a car, pick it up in the terminal itself: it’s the easiest way.
By ferry: from Barcelona and Mallorca
From Barcelona there are ferries to Maó (Trasmed and GNV, overnight, about 8 hours) and to Ciutadella (Baleària, with a fast ferry in season). From Alcúdia, in Mallorca, the crossing to Ciutadella takes just over an hour.
The ferry is the best option if you want to bring your car or combine Mallorca and Menorca in one trip. Timetables and fares change every season: compare them on the ferry companies’ websites.
By cruise ship: a day in Maó
Cruise ships dock in Maó harbour, a 15-minute walk from the centre up the Costa de ses Voltes steps: you can see the town on foot in a day.
