Ferry to Menorca from Barcelona, Mallorca and Valencia, port by port

Ferries sail to Menorca all year from Barcelona, Mallorca and Valencia, to the ports of Maó and Ciutadella. The shortest crossing is Alcúdia–Ciutadella, from 1 hour; from Barcelona, the fast ferry to Ciutadella takes about 3 h 30 min and conventional ferries to Maó take 7 to 9 hours, usually overnight. Pick the port by where you are staying: Maó for the east, Ciutadella for the west.

From Barcelona: to Maó or Ciutadella

Trasmed and GNV sail to Maó with conventional ferries taking about 7 to 9 hours, almost always overnight. Baleària goes to Ciutadella, with a fast ferry from about 3 h 30 min. There are sailings almost every day of the year.

The overnight ferry lands you on the island first thing and saves a night’s accommodation: book a cabin if you want to sleep properly. The fast ferry is worth it if you arrive with the day ahead of you and are staying in the west.

From Mallorca: Alcúdia–Ciutadella and Palma–Maó

Baleària and Menorca Lines cross between Alcúdia and Ciutadella in 1 h–1 h 15 min, daily or nearly so, and Corsica Ferries in about 2 h 30 min on some days. From Palma to Maó there is one ferry a week, taking about 6 hours.

Alcúdia–Ciutadella is the quickest way to combine both islands on one trip. If you are still deciding, read Menorca or Mallorca?.

From Valencia: one ferry a week

Trasmed links Valencia and Maó with a weekly ferry taking about 15 to 16 hours. It is worth it if you are coming from the Valencia area with your own car; otherwise, flying is much faster.

Maó or Ciutadella: which port to arrive at

Arrive at Maó if you are staying in the east (Maó, Es Castell, Sant Lluís or Binibeca) and at Ciutadella if you are staying in the west. The two ports are 45–50 minutes apart on the Me-1, the road that crosses the island.

Ciutadella harbour is next to the old town; Maó’s lies below the city. Which area suits your trip, in where to stay in Menorca.
