Menorca in 2 days: what to see on a weekend

Two days are not enough for all of Menorca, but they are enough for what makes it different if you pick one half of the island: the centre and the south coast, less than 30 minutes’ drive from Maó. Day one, Monte Toro, a Talayotic village, Son Bou beach and sunset at the Cova d’en Xoroi; day two, Binibeca Vell, the caves of Cales Coves and dinner at the harbour of Cales Fonts.

Day 1: Monte Toro, Torre d’en Galmés and Son Bou

Start with the view over almost the whole island from Monte Toro (358 m), go on to the Talayotic village of Torre d’en Galmés and spend the afternoon at Son Bou, Menorca’s longest beach, before sunset at the Cova d’en Xoroi.

Go up Monte Toro early, while the sky is clear. Torre d’en Galmés is 5 km south of Alaior, on the way to Son Bou. Sunset tickets for the Cova d’en Xoroi, open from April to late October, sell out in summer: buy them before you go.

Day 2: Binibeca Vell, Cales Coves and Cales Fonts

On day two, the south-east: the white village of Binibeca Vell in the morning, a swim and the prehistoric caves of Cales Coves at midday, and dinner at the fishing harbour of Cales Fonts, 8 minutes from Maó.

Binibeca Vell is made of private homes: visits run from 10:00 to 22:00, quietly. You walk down to Cales Coves from the road, and Cales Fonts is the best place for the last dinner.

These two days are Excursia’s free sample: the full PDF, with opening times, how to reach every stop, where to eat and what changes in the low season, with no sign-up.

Two days out of season

From November to March many beaches have no services and some restaurants close: swap the beach afternoon for Ciutadella, the Lithica quarries and the Naveta des Tudons, which open all year.

The Menorca in winter itinerary is designed for a low-season weekend. More ideas in Menorca in winter.

Where to stay for two nights

For a weekend, stay in Maó or Es Castell: they are 5–10 minutes from the airport, have buses to almost the whole island and keep the south and the centre less than half an hour away.

If you arrive by ferry in Ciutadella, reverse the order and start in the west. More options in where to stay in Menorca.
