Nightlife in Menorca is quieter than on other Balearic islands and happens around the harbours: the terraces of Cales Fonts and Ciutadella harbour for dinner, bars with music on Maó harbour and at the far end of Ciutadella harbour for a drink, and the Cova d’en Xoroi, with night sessions in a cave above the cliff.
Where to have dinner
In Cales Fonts (Es Castell), at tables by the water; on Ciutadella harbour, where terraces fill up from 21:00; and on Maó’s Moll de Ponent. In summer, book.
- Cales Fonts: Trébol, a classic since 1969 in a cave, or tapas at Namasté.
- Ciutadella harbour: fish and seafood at Café Balear.
- Maó harbour: fish and rice dishes at La Minerva, on a pontoon.

Live music and drinks
On Maó’s Moll de Ponent, Akelarre, in a centuries-old fisherman’s house, has live music and turns into a club at weekends. In Ciutadella, the cocktail bars are towards the far end of the harbour.
The Cova d’en Xoroi
A sunset bar and night club in a cave in the Cala en Porter cliff. In season there are night sessions from 23:00, for over-18s; it closes from late October to March.

A night at the opera or the theatre
The Teatre Principal in Maó, opened in 1829, is the oldest opera house in Spain and stages opera, concerts and plays all year. Check the programme on its website.

If you are drinking, leave the car and take a taxi: Radio Taxi Menorca is on 971 367 111 (Maó, Sant Lluís and Es Castell) and 971 482 222 (Ciutadella and Ferreries). From Cala en Porter, book your taxi back.
