The best souvenirs from Menorca are edible or drinkable: Mahón-Menorca cheese with Protected Designation of Origin, Mahón gin with Protected Geographical Indication, sobrasada and ensaïmadas. The handiest places to buy them are Maó’s Mercat des Claustre, the Xoriguer distillery shop and a dairy such as Hort de Sant Patrici. And to wear, avarcas, the island’s traditional sandals.
Mahón-Menorca cheese
Look for the Mahón-Menorca PDO seal. It is sold at different ages; at Hort de Sant Patrici (Ferreries) the shop opens during the guided tours, Tuesday to Saturday at 11:30, booking required.

Mahón gin has Protected Geographical Indication. At the Xoriguer shop, on Maó’s Moll de Ponent, you can taste the gin and pomada before buying.

At Maó’s Mercat des Claustre, open Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 21:00 and on Sunday mornings, stalls sell local sobrasada, carn i xua, ensaïmadas and cheese.
