With five days you see all of Menorca and still keep a day just for the southern coves. The easiest plan is two nights in the east (Maó or Es Castell) and three in the west (Ciutadella), giving each day to one area so you never cross the island twice in a day.
Day 1: Maó and its harbour
Day one, Maó: the Mercat des Claustre, the Museu de Menorca and the harbour, one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, with La Mola fortress or Illa del Rei in the afternoon.
Start in Maó, go on to the Museu de Menorca and choose in the afternoon between La Mola fortress and Illa del Rei. Have dinner in Cales Fonts.

Day 2: the south-east, from Binibeca to the Cova d’en Xoroi
Day two, the south-east coast: Binibeca Vell in the morning, Cales Coves and its caves at midday, and sunset at the Cova d’en Xoroi, above Cala en Porter.
Binibeca Vell is open to visitors from 10:00 to 22:00. The Cova d’en Xoroi opens from April to late October and its sunset tickets sell out in summer. For a beach with services, Cala en Porter.

Day 3: the north, Monte Toro and Fornells
Day three, the north: Monte Toro first thing, s’Albufera des Grau or Favàritx lighthouse, and lunch in Fornells; with time, sunset at Cavalleria lighthouse.

Day 4: Ciutadella and the Naveta des Tudons
Day four, now based in the west: the Naveta des Tudons, a tomb shaped like an upturned boat about 3,000 years old, Ciutadella’s old town and sunset at Punta Nati lighthouse.
The Naveta des Tudons is 5 minutes from Ciutadella. The Lithica quarries are a good stop on a hot or windy day. In July and August a shuttle bus takes you up to Punta Nati lighthouse at sunset.

Day 5: a whole day of southern coves
Keep the last day for the unspoilt southern coves: Macarella and Macarelleta in the morning and Cala Mitjana or Turqueta in the afternoon, linked by the Camí de Cavalls if you feel like walking.
From 1 June to 30 September you reach Macarella on bus L69 from Ciutadella or on foot. From Cala Galdana, a 20–30 minute path along the Camí de Cavalls leads to Cala Mitjana. More ideas in Menorca coves on foot.
Five days on foot or by bike
If you would rather get around under your own steam, there are two five-day routes: on foot, through s’Albufera, the red north and the southern Camí de Cavalls; and by bike, around the flat west of Ciutadella, its lighthouses and coves.
Menorca on foot and Menorca by bike include distances, climbs and where to refill water. The best stretches of the path, in Camí de Cavalls: the best sections.
