May is one of the best months to visit Menorca: the average high is around 22 °C, it rains on about 4 days and there are 270 hours of sunshine (AEMET, Menorca airport, 1981-2010). The countryside is still green, the coves are quiet and until the 31st you can still drive to Macarella. The sea is cool: swimming is more pleasant at the end of the month.

Can you swim in Menorca in May?
Yes, although the water is still cool, especially early in the month: it is nicest around midday and in sheltered coves. By the end of May almost everyone is happy to swim.
When the tramontana blows, the southern coves are the most sheltered: Cala Galdana, Cala Mitjana or Cala Turqueta. With children, Es Grau stays shallow for many metres.
What changes in beach access in mid-May
Until 31 May you can park at Macarella; from 1 June it is reached only by bus or on foot. The road to Favàritx lighthouse closes to cars in mid-May, and from then on you go up on the L43 bus from Maó.
If Macarella is a must for you, May is the last month to drive there: the car park is a 15-minute walk from the cove. Dates and buses for each place are in summer access in Menorca.
